A village on the Devil’s Moor: a place untouched by time and shrouded in superstition. There is the grand manor house whose occupants despise the villagers, the small pub whose regulars talk of revenants, the old mill no one dares to mention. This is where four young friends come of age-in an atmosphere thick with fear and suspicion.
Their innocent games soon bring them face-to-face with the village’s darkest secrets in this eerily dispassionate, astonishingly assured novel, infused with the spirit of the Brothers Grimm and evocative of Stephen King’s classic short story “Children of the Corn” and the films The White Ribbon by Michael Haneke and Village of the Damned by Wolf Rilla.

Title is a few lines from a Tom Waits song called Jockey Full of Bourbon. Good track. I’ll suss this book out. Thanks for the UP.

It’s a great Tom Waits song, but the lyric is actually from a medieval-era nursery rhyme:

I’m hoping this lives up to the description-wish I could find the white ribbon on here as a novel, really liked the movie. very creepy

i usually find when a blurb tries to refer me to many more popular works to tell me what the book is about, it’s because it’s not a very good work on it’s own. i could be wrong here, haven’t read or listened yet, but that’s the worry. if it set it’s own trend or style, it would talk about that, instead of trying to get me to read something that may be a bit of an ‘also-ran’.
