I enjoyed this the first time I read it as a fascinating picture of English West Country scenery and manners (I was necessarily not very critical of its accuracy, as I was 13 years old and American). Most of the dialogue is in Devon or Somerset dialect, so a great deal of the success of this book will depend on the reader’s abilities. With fingers crossed, thanks, Guest.
