This Penguin Classic is performed by Miranda Pleasence, the stage and television actress best known for her roles in Notes on a Scandal, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall and The Affair of the Necklace. This definitive recording includes an introduction by Richard Pevear.
Tolstoy’s epic novel of love, destiny and self-destruction.
Anna Karenina seems to have everything - beauty, wealth, popularity and an adored son. But she feels that her life is empty until the moment she encounters the impetuous officer Count Vronsky. Their subsequent affair scandalizes society and family alike and soon brings jealously and bitterness in its wake. Contrasting with this tale of love and self-destruction is the vividly observed story of Levin, a man striving to find contentment and a meaning to his life - and also a self-portrait of Tolstoy himself.
This acclaimed modern translation by Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky won the PEN/Book of the Month Club Translation Prize in 2001.
“The new and brilliantly witty translation by Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky is a must.” (Lisa Appignanesi, Independent, Books of the Year)
“Pevear and Volokhonsky are at once scrupulous translators and vivid stylists of English, and their superb rendering allows us, as perhaps never before, to grasp the palpability of Tolstoy’s characters, acts, situations.” (James Wood, New Yorker)

And so this is the True Decrypt version.
For the purists within you. Hehe.
The chapters aren’t completely embedded but it is free from the re-encoding process that would accompany such a task. So the book is a bit higher quality! (still looking to find a way to do one without sacrificing the other)
Still Chapterized and CUE Formatted though. :)

Edit:
For the purists among you.*
(This AMOGUS nonsense has scarred me for life it seems.)

Dear TheReadist :)
Thank you very much. I looked for you in the forums but couldn’t find you, so I am typing what I can here.
To get the chapter marks right, one way is to adjust the chapters before decryption with inAudible, assuming you have original Audible aax files.
Or, if what you have are m4b files, with inAudible, you can only get cue files with desired chapter info without any re-encoding. Those cue files in this case are gold. From here, you want to use apps that can embed cue with m4b files. This process needs to be lossless to keep the quality intact. The last upload obviously was converted, so I suppose it’s the app’s limitation. I use foobar2000 to listen to audio books and it can do the trick, so I don’t need other apps. Otherwise, you may find this app better suited for the job.

Lemme know if I need to type more :))

Yeah, I haven’t created an account on the Forum yet.
I’d love to use the Chapter feature of InAudible 1.97 but it crashes when I use those features! It spits out a “Input String was not in the correct format”. And knowing InAudible has stopped being updated I just figured it was because it was obsolete.
I’m going to try the solutions you gave me for the next one.
Thanks for the help Worminbooks.

Try Libation, I think it saves the chapter info from the aax files

Thanks TheReadist.

I didn’t know I could type quite much in here. Guess the small window had me fooled :))
Anyhow, I just finished downloading and it’s perfect. If anyone wants to adjust the chapter marks, I suppose they can do it by themselves. The file is as good as one can get from Audible. What else can one ask.
Be warned, though, this books has 240 chapters. :)) Applaud for TheReadist !!

Well.
I tried Chapter Master and it either couldn’t read the chapter info before it was processed with Drax, and when I tried again after Drax, saving the file simply corrupted it. :(
BUT!
I tried the Foobar2000 thing and YES! It Works! Here is the process:
- You have your M4B and it’s CUE file with the correct chapter splits -
0. Make a copy of your M4B
1. Change, in the first line of your CUE file, “MP4″ to “WAVE”. Then save and close it.
2. In Foobar, find your target M4B, Right Click any of it’s tracks, Utilities, Edit MP4 Chapters…
3. Select the CUE file, wait a bit (or a long while) and once done you’ll see all the chapter info but with all the metadata stripped.
4. Open Mp3Tag and use your Backup’s metadata to overwrite the new one.
5. Now you have a Chapterized + Title Embedded + Lossless M4B!
Thanks Worminbooks for the help!
Now we just need to pray for the InAudible dev to some day come back and update the thing to not go through this each time. Hahaha!

@Popkin
Libation looks like a great piece of software!
Though, to my knowledge, it’s just that the complete chapter info is simply *not present* in the files from Audible.
When listening on the App/Site, well formatted books will have a distinct chapter each time the narrator starts a Part.
eg: “Part 1″ | “Introduction”
Where the | is a split so these are 2 distinct M4B chapters.
And I say well formatted books because this version wasn’t! It just went from Chapter 01 to Chapter 240! With my new findings, THIS VERSION WOULD BE BETTER THAN THE OFFICIAL. Which still manages to baffle me.
In the M4B file you get, there often is less information and less splits. And these “Part” splits are often the first ones to go. So until someone finds a way to automatically grab the info from their servers, we’ll just have to add them back manually.
Glad we found workaround to all this at least.

@TheReadist,
I am glad you tried it with foobar2000. The developer of the other app stopped support too.:(
If you have iTune, I am pretty sure it can do the job too, maybe even better, although I don’t have iTune on my computer. The reason I know is that Foobar2000 may have a different format for chapter marks than that of iTune. In other words, they are incompatible. I suppose iTune’s format supports more devices, and so it reaches more people, particularly those who don’t use foobar2000.
That being said, so long as we have cue files included, it makes any further process so much easier.
Now, your uploads have True Decrypt copies as well as cue files, that’s what I called perfect.
I really appreciate your effort and your caring. :))

Thank you so much for making this available.
This is more than just a bit higher quality than the previous upload, in my opinion. There are noticeable artifacts in the audio in the previous upload that I’m guessing AudiobookConverter is responsible for. That’s my guess because I had the same problem with that program earlier. Even when I set it to “avoid” force re-encoding, it re-encoded anyway and created artifacts in my audio. For that reason, I’m going to avoid the program in the future.

@Worminbooks
I’d rather not use iTunes. The current workflow is good enough for me too.
‘Pleasure working with you. 👍

@jon.jbm
Well. Thanks for pointing this out!
I will immediately post the True Decrypt versions of the previous encoded posts to fix that and warn future downloaders.
Luckily only 2 posts were affected.
